Dr. Steven McCarus
Dr. McCarus is well-known for his adhesiolysis surgery. It is unclear whether he possesses a similar expertise in endometriosis excision.
Stars: AEEP ranks providers in five key areas and assigns stars accordingly. An endo doctor receives one star per each of these that are made evident:
- excises endo with wide margins
- majority of patients have endo *
- keeps post-surgical outcome statistics
- published/ presented work, peer-reviewed * (GnRH, Pain Management)
- usually avoids GnRH agonists
These criteria are based on our own experiences and research. Our goal is to maximize the chances of restored functionality. Talk to your doctor to see what treatment is right for you.

Formerly practicing in Utah, Dr. Arrington joined the CEC in 2018. Dr. Arrington performs his own urinary tract work and performs some bowel work (shaving of the bowel and discoid resections). Segmental resections are conducted by an assisting surgeon.
Studied under Dr. C.Y. Liu
“Dr. Arrington is recognized as a regional and national expert in advanced excision of endometriosis. Since his fellowship training, he has continued to challenge his knowledge and surgical skills to help patients with “hopeless” cases of endometriosis. By caring for patients with this disease, he and his staff understand what you have been through. They understand the frustration, hopelessness and fear that so many endometriosis patients have experienced and are prepared to help.” – endowest.net

Patients with complex cases may need to seek out a surgeon with more experience.

Dr. Diakos works with a multi disciplinary team ( colorectal surgeon , urogynecology).
She says that people with endometriosis need “education , recognition and referral to a specialized endometriosis center. Knowledge is power. Women for too long have been told pain is normal and have been dismissed”.
Dr. Diakos enjoys skiing in the winter and sailing in the summer and speaks some Greek.

Dr. Furr takes most commercial insurances as well as Tricare and Medicare. He does not accept Medicaid.

Dr. John Dulemba does some bowel work (but brings in a colorectal surgeon for resections), does his own urinary work, does diaphragm work, and works with a thoracic surgeon for lungs. He is always challenging the status quo. Dr. Dulemba does a “second look” surgery on his patients shortly after the first surgery.
Dr. Dulemba is a former helicopter and fixed wing pilot who enjoys skiing and his car (a Tesla). He absolutely LOVES the Steelers. Other than that, he says, he has no other hobbies. “Endometriosis/ adhesions are my life”.
“Too many patients/women do not know about this disease. I also think early intervention is so much better for women.”
Dr. Nicholas Fogelson does most bowel and urinary tract work himself. He has a colorectal surgeon on hand to assist when needed.
He is very active in educating patients and healthcare providers about endometriosis. His blog can be found at http://www.academicobgyn.com
