Endometriosis X Sports: Awareness and Funding Campaign
Backstory
Family and friends are together. Pete is making his famous hot wings, Rob is bringing deviled eggs, and John just walked in with the beer. Haley and Heather bought napkins that look like a football field. The little cousins are running around between watching the game and playing catch outside. The game comes on. Both teams are wearing pink accessories. Why? It’s breast cancer awareness month and organizations like Susan G. Komen Foundation have created this breast cancer awareness campaign.
By making breast cancer a PUBLIC issue, Komen has helped to decrease breast cancer mortality rates 44% since 1989. Everyone knows about breast cancer, people are regularly screened, and amazing strides have been made.
Goal
Endometriosis affects approximately 1 in 7 people of the female sex. Yet, it is not a household word, anything people do know about it is likely incomplete or patently incorrect, and in many homes it may even be taboo to discuss. It affects people from seven years old all the way to after menopause. It can cause, pain, infertility, organ dysfunction, and all sorts of devastating effects.
This spring we are more serious than ever about making endometriosis a household word, and we want to teach people through something everyone knows and loves: SPORTS.
Rationale
Starting in March we will be combining the incredible feats of athletes with endometriosis awareness. Why? Endometriosis patients and advocates have been screaming for years and have hardly been heard. They desperately need the rest of the world to hear their plight, to understand, and to be a part of the solution. They need to be about to speak about endometriosis openly and intelligently. They need to believe patients and not accuse the patient of it being “all in their head”. We need their help, but how can they help if they do not understand? And how can they understand if they do not hear? And how can they hear if they do not even know what they don’t know?
But everyone follows sports. Sports are the universal celebrations of the abilities of the human body. Sports will get their attention.
Athletes can have endometriosis (although the condition makes it so some are unable) and their loved ones can have endometriosis and related conditions. This affects all of us from the couch to the field.
Goal
We are all on the same team, and our goal is worthy: teach every person in America about endometriosis and help them get real help.
Starting April 15, 2026 we are hosting an online sports auction (preview of items coming soon!) This will raise money for our all-volunteer 501c3 nonprofit. Funds are used to continue our free directory website (and to improve it!), finish our endometriosis educational app, host endometriosis awareness events, educate everyone from kids to senators, and provide one-to-one peer support.
